Bulk storage facilities require high level monitoring and control technology that seek to eliminate the human element in their operations and control, and introduce high precision sensor technology in making accurate measurement of stocks.
This is especially critical due to the large volumes that are pushed through the system at any given time, thus increasing the probability of massive losses through human errors, or lack of clear and precise data, or control.
The SURVEYORTM
system is specifically designed as an automatic tank gauging system, with
high precision, required where fuel or chemicals are stored in bulk tanks.
Employing a host of sensors such as temperature probes, pressure sensors and
radar sensors, the advanced software is able to calculate and report in real
time the product temperature, level, weight, tank pressure and tank stresses.
Hand held or wall mounted display units can be used to enter control functions
such as opening and closing valves, starting and stopping electrical pumps.
These devices are all certified for use in potentially explosive environments
and have inbuilt multiple redundancy to ensure safety.
The unit hosts customizable and robust software that is immune to virus attack and can be reprogrammed to give any level of customized functions at a client’s request and employs a redundant power supply system enabling its use in areas with poor voltage regulation.
Information regarding behavior of the tanks can be relayed wirelessly to a terminal as well as be accessed via internet as a webpage. This relaying of data can be implemented using GSM as GPRS data or in cases of very remote sites, be relayed using satellite telephony.
For crude oil tanks, using microwave technology it is possible to implement oil-water interface detection and automate the dewatering process. This ensures maximum utilization of the tank in storing crude oil, as well as removes the water which initiates rusting of the tank. The system is programmed to ensure that crude oil is not accidentally discharged from the tank.
